It’s 65 degrees. The sun is out, but it’s not relentless. There’s a breeze. It’s a perfect day for jeans and a college football jersey. That’s probably because…
COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS BACKKKKKKKKKKKKK!
Oh. Hell. Yes.
For Penn Staters, where do we even begin? Paterno’s 45th season? The first, of which, that Paterno has decided to start a true freshman quarterback, Robert Bolden? A chance to win the most college games, 395? Youngstown State Penguins or not, it’s exciting.
Will the defense mesh? Will the toned down “spread HD” work for #1 when the poop finally hits the fan in front of 110,000 fans? Youngstown State Penguins or not, it’s nerve-wracking.
No one wants to start 0-1. Not even Youngstown State. Sure it’s nice to win and get to bowl games, but is that really what it’s all about?
But isn’t it worth more that after a long hot summer, you have a perfectly good reason to wear nothing but college apparel on Saturdays? A perfectly good reason to pick up and drive 5+ hours to get to the middle of cow fields to see a game? A perfectly good reason to show up to work on Monday without a voice? A perfectly good reason to schedule your day around a noon kick off? A perfectly good reason to feel belongingness to navy and white?
Of course it is. Go State.
